Newcomers

During semester breaks and the summer everybody can join anytime. For participation in the winter tournament you should join at the beginning of the semester.

Time: Tuesdays, 7.30 p.m.
Location: S91, Philosophikum

Are you interested in British parliamentary style debating? The easiest way to learn more about us is to come to one of our sessions. We meet every Tuesday at 7.30 p.m. in S91. In the summer semester and the semester breaks everybody can come and join us any time. In the winter semester, however, you can only join at the beginning, as we hold a semester-long competitive tournament. The winning team gets sponsoring for a trip to the European Debating Championships. Other teams that excel in the competition get sponsoring to participate in high profile competitions in the British Isles.

Requirements:

  • High commitment!
  • English at least on conversational level.
  • Compulsory attendance every week, 19:30-23:30. (winter semester)
  • Participation in a weekend workshop with a world class tutor. (winter semester)
  • Prepared Chamber Debates on political/debating topics.
  • Organizational help for Tilbury House events (especially the Intervarsity tournament).
  • You must turn in a CV.
  • Be prepared to pay a small fee. (winter semester)
