April 2010

West-German Debating Championships

In an off-the-record excursion to german debating the Tilbury House delegation showed an outstanding effort at the West-German Championships in Dortmund.

Tilbury II with Bianca Sterly & Sebastian Hagemann were the first team to break with a stunning total of eleven points after four preliminary rounds. They also topped the speaker tab with Bianca Sterly being the best speaker of the tournament. Tilbury I with Assen Kochev & Tillman Schrammel broke in third place.

Both teams eventually made it to the grand final where Tilbury I was able to outpace all other opponents and claim the title.

The great performance was completed by Marco Sterly judging the final and Felix Lamouroux making the break to the semifinals.



February 2010

Manchester IV, Belgrad IV

Two teams represented Tilbury House at the Manchester IV. Charlie Stollmann and Assen Kochev missed the ESL final by a single team point. Lyuba Ilieva and Sebastian Hagemann made it all the way through five rounds to the great ESL final. The tab can be found here.

Lukas Thiel and Fabian Farkas participated at the Belgrad IV. They finished 23rd in a field of 52 teams. Find team and speaker tab here.

January 2010

Annual Final

The Annual Final of the Tilbury House winter tournament will take place on 22th January 2010 in the Neuer Senatssaal of the University of Cologne.

The public is warmly invited to witness a debate of the four best teams that made their way to the long awaited final. We will start at 7 p.m.

The motion will be announced shortly before the debate.



With an outstanding performance in the final Moved to Tears represented by Lyuba Ilieva and Lukas Thiel gained the victory over The blonde Beast with Bianca Sterly and Sebastian Hagemann.

Congratulations also to Charly Stollman who received the trophy as best speaker of the final.

Oxford IV


Oxford IV 09 - After six staggering preliminary rounds the run of Tilbury House with
Bianca Sterly & Tillman Schrammel  finally came to an end with a close decision in the ESL Final.
Marco Sterly completed the Tilbury House team as a judge.

We would like to thank the CA - Team the conveners and everyone else involved for organising a great tournament.

Congratulations to the winning teams from Leiden and Yale for their great performances. The tab will be available soon.

European Universities Debating Championships Newcastle 2009


EUDC Newcastle '09 - Tilbury House B with David Lamouroux & Tillman Schrammel make the break to the ESL quarter  finals after seven preliminary rounds. Tilbury House A with Johannes Norrenbrock & Fabian Farkas miss the quarter finals by only two team points.
Assen Kochev served as an adjudicator and also made the break to the ESL quarter finals.

Congratulations to the winning teams Leiden A and Oxford A.

Tilbury House Summer Open

Summer Open - We would like to thank everyone who participated in the Tilbury House Summer Open! A total of 32 teams from all over Europe made this an unforgettable event!

Summer Open - Important Information - We will meet Friday from 6pm on at the Bar Radio One on Zülpicherstreet. Make sure to come there if you need crash or want to meet fellow debaters for a drink and food. The tournament starts with registration on Saturday at 9am at the Philosophikum of the University Of Cologne.

Tallinn IV 2009 - Marite Klavina & David Lamouroux break to the semi finals of the Tallinn IV 2009 being the fifth best team of the preliminary rounds. David misses being among the top five speakers by one speaker point only.

Term Kick Off & Amsterdam Open & Paris IV

Summer term kick off - The first official session of the new summer term will be on April 21st at 19:30 in S91 of the Philosophikum. New comers are most welcome. Introductory sessions will be held each Tuesday until early May.  

Amsterdam Open 2009 - Bianca & Marco Sterly successfully compete at the Amsterdam Open 2009 missing the break to the ESL final rounds by only one point.

Paris IV 2009 - Fabian Farkas & Florian Platz compete at the Paris IV 2009. It’s Fabians first and Florians second international tournament. Congratulations!

Term break debates & Summer Open

Term break debates - Debating sessions will be held throughout the term every Tuesday at 7.30 pm at S91/3. Feel free to join us at any time. Newcomers are most welcome. The first session will be held on Tuesday 17th of February.

Tilbury House Summer Open - The Tilbury House Summer Open will be held for the forth time this year in May/June. This year's tournament will be bigger and better than ever and will again be an ideal preparation for euros. Check back regularly for updates.

January 2009

Annual Finals & Jacobs Open 2009

Annual Finals 2009 - The annual finals were held on January 29th at 7pm in the "Alte Senatssaal" of the University of Cologne. We were pleased to welcome the honorary jury: Dr. Juliane Kronen, Dr. Wolfram Nolte, Professor Dr. Achim Wambach. The winner of the final will receive full sponsoring for this year's European Debating Championships in Newcastle. Our congratulations go to Robert Doll and Fabian Farkas - the winners of this year's Annual Finals - as well as Yana Zhakhouskaya (the best speaker on the tab), Florian Platz (best newcomer) and Barbara Schnieders (runner-up for best newcomer).

Jacobs Open 2009 - We are please to announce that Felix Lamouroux will be DCA along with Rhydian Morgan (DCA) under Isabelle Löwe (CA) at this year's Jacobs Open. Tilbury Teams who wish to participate should contact David or Felix as soon as possible. More information about the tournament can be found here.

Cambridge IV '08 & Debate Workshop with Rhydian Morgan & Oxford IV '08

Cambridge IV '08 - Robert Doll & Juan Antonio Monroy make the break to the ESL semifinals at the prestigious Cambridge IV. It is Juan's first tournament and their first experience with open motions. Congratulations!

Debate Workshop - Rhydian G. Morgan (former Oxford debater, winner and CA of countless tournaments) will be holding this year's workshop at Tilbury House. The workshop is open and free to everyone (and mandatory for all Tilburies) and will start on Saturday November 15th at 9am in S91 (Philosophikum). The workshop will focus on essential skills in public speaking and will prepare you to compete in debating tournaments around Europe. Join us!

Oxford IV '08 - Marco & Bianca Sterly and David Lamouroux & Sebastian Hagemann compete at the renowned Oxford tournament missing the break to the ESL final rounds by a few points only.

Winter Term Kick Off

Kickoff - The debating sessions of the winter term will officially begin on October 21st at 7:30 pm in S91. Feel free to join us. We will be offering introductory sessions for new comers until mid November. Tilbury House welcomes students from all faculties.

Sweat Cup

Sweat Cup - The winner of this year's sweat cup is Dodos Panagiotis leading the field with 5 points. Two points behind the runners up are Leonard Münstermann and Jörg Oesterle. Congratulations to the winners.

EUDC 2008 & Yeditepe Open & German Championships

EUDC 2008 - Assen Kochev & Felix Lamouroux made it to the semifinals (ESL) as third team on the ESL tab. Assen ranks 10th on the speaker tab (ESL). David Lamouroux & Yana Zhakhouskaya, Bianca Sterly & Johannes Norrenbrock break to the ESL quarter finals. Sebastian Hagemann & Benjamin Smale make it to a break room. Dirk Harlacher, Marite Klavina and Robin Wuchter adjudicated. Dirk chaired rooms, Marite made the judges break to ESL quarter-finals for the first time in the society's history. Tilbury House delivers a consistent success and is among the most successful ESL societies with 3 out of 4 teams breaking. The full results can be found here. We would like to thank the organisers for a wonderful tournament in Tallinn, Estonia.

Yeditepe Open - Yana Zhakhouskaya and David Lamouroux made it to the grand final of the Yeditepe Open 2008 in Istanbul, Turkey + Sebastian Hagemann and Benjamin Smale narrowly missed the break to the semis by speaker points.

German Championships - Bianca & Marco Sterly topped the team tab of the German national championsships. Marco Sterly was the best speaker on the tab. Unfortunately the two were kicked out in the semifinals. We congratulate the Winners Thorsten Rössing and Marcus Ewald from Halle.

May 2008

Summer Open '08

Summer Open 2008 - 28 teams debated in the third Tilbury House Summer Open on Saturday, May 24th. Congratulations to the winning team Panos Dodos and Leonard Münstermann as well as to the best speaker on the tab Assen Kochev. April 2008

Amsterdam Open & WDM '08 & Paris IV & Summer Open '08 & Term Kick off

Amsterdam Open - David Lamouroux & Karolin Piatkowski miss the break by two team points (and speaks) ranking midfield. Johannes Norrenbrock & Rob Doll rank midfield in their first tournament together.

WDM - Both Tilbury teams made the semi final break of the west german debating championships. Assen Kochev & Hannah Raible made it to the grand final in Mannheim. Bianca & Marco Sterly rank third on the team tab. Tilbury House was the only society with two teams in the break.

Paris IV - Yana Zhakhouskaya & Dirk Harlacher represent Tilbury House as judges at the Paris IV, both making it to the semi finals.

Kick off - The summer debating semester will officially start on Tuesday April 15th (7.30pm in S91) with an introduction for newcomers and the announcement of the winners of the last cup. Further introduction sessions for newcomers will be held in the following weeks.

Summer Open - The registration for the third Tilbury House Summer Open (Saturday May 24th) has started today. More information on the tournament can be found here.

Tilbury House IV

TH IV 2008 - Our IV was held on March 14th - 15th. Congratulations to Giles Robertson and Mischa Balen from Cambridge Mean for winning the Final, Mischa Balen for being Best Speaker of the Final, Sharon Kroes for being the Most Entertaining Speaker of the Final and Shane Murray for coming top of the tab.

LSE Open 2008 & TH IV Team Cap reached

LSE Open 2008 - Assen Kochev & Dan James (MDU) continue the tradition of MDU/TH composite teams at LSE and rank 47th in a field of 88 teams. Joanna Gajewska, Gabor Vozari, Robert Doll & Tobias Hauck beat several teams. It is Tobias' first international tournament.

TH IV 2008 - We have almost reached the team cap of 40 teams, the registration for adjudicators is still open. If you have already registered make sure to finalise your registration by providing travel details or transfering the registration fee. Meanwhile we have opened up a waiting list, simply register through the form and we will let you know as soon as possible when a spot becomes available.

11th Annual Final & German Debating Championships & WUDC 2008 & Tilbury House IV 2008

11th Annual Final - Sebastian Hagemann & Benjamin Smale win the 11th Annual Final and will compete in the European Debating Championships in Talinn 2008 for Tilbury House. José Gavilanes was best Speaker. Panos Dodos was best newcomer. Congratulations to all winners. The full tab can be downloaded here.

German Debating Championships (DDM 2008) - Felix Lamouroux (Tilbury House) will be Deputy Chief Adjudicator of the DDM 2008, which will be held from June 12th to June 15th in Berlin. Patrick Ehmann from the Berlin Debating Union will be Chief Adjudicator of this tournament. The other DCA's include former DDM CA Sebastian Berg and ESL-Euros finalist Aurora Simionescu.

WUDC 2008 - Assen Kochev & Kai Menzel break to the ESL Final of the World University Debating Championships as the best european ESL-team and are 8th on the ESL team tab. Kai & Assen lose to Amsterdam B and are now vice world champions in English as a second language. Kai Menzel is the best european ESL speaker. Tilbury House represents Germany at the World Debating council.

TH IV 2008 - The organizing team is proud to announce that the registration for the Tilbury House IV 2008 is now open. We are looking forward to welcoming you in Cologne on March 14th - 15th for a weekend of challenging debates, fabulous parties and great time! The adjudication panel will be headed by CA Derek Lande (CA Worlds 2009, Cork; DCA Worlds 2007, Vancouver; DCA Euros 2006, Berlin), DCA Andrew Marshall and DCA David Tait (Convenor of Glasgow bid, Euros Semi-finalist, Scottish champion 2006). The registration fee of €40 per debater and €20 per judge covers all aspects of your stay in the city on Rhein - from the hotel-like accommodation to meals, drinks, parties, city tour and the Champions' Dinner on Saturday night. The Intervarsity is sponsored by Sal. Oppenheim, Henkel, Bertelsmann and supported by Haniel Stiftung and Wallraf-Richartz-Museum & Fondation Corboud. The team cap for this year's IV is 40 (n-1 rule applies), so be quick to register! KCL Graveson Cup IV 2007

KCL Graveson Cup IV 2007 - being the only non-British team of the tournament, Yana & Panos rank 11th out of 60 on the team tab, missing the semifinal by one point. At his first international tournament Panos is 12th in the individual ranking, beating 107 native speakers.

Duursma Workshop & Riga

Lars Duursma (ESL World Champion 2006, ESL European Champion 2003 & 2005) held this year's Tilbury House debating work shop in the Fakultätssitzungsaal of the economics and business faculty of the University Cologne.

SSE Riga & LMT IV - Hannah Raible & Eva-Maria Wühlst rank 19th at the SSE Riga & LMT IV 2007 beating several international teams.

October 2007

Winter term kick off, Workshop & Leiden Open '07

Leiden Open '07 - Sarah Holton & Felix Lamouroux made it to the Grand final at their first tournament as a composite team breaking 7th on the tab (12th and 10th on the speaker tab). They are runners up--second only to Jason & Doug from St. Andrews. Yana Zhakhouskaya & David Lamouroux made it to a break room missing the semi finals by one team point and speaks. David beats 75 speakers on the tab at his first international tournament. Assen Kochev and Kai Menzel beat 34 teams, ranking 13th and 20th respectively among the speakers. Lyuba Llieva & Robert Doll rank 21st in a field of 49 teams at Rob's first international tournament. Sebastian Hagemann & Benjamin Smale rank 26th at Sebastian's international debut.  Joanna Gajewska & Gabor Vozari beat 39 speakers on the tab ranking 58th and 59th. Tilbury House was one of the largest delegation and is proud of many successful debuts on this tournaments.

Winter term kick off - On October 16th 7.30 pm at S91 (Philosophikum) we will start the winter term with our Kick off sessions. This is the perfect opportunity for new comers to join debating and participate in out winter term tournament. Additional introductory sessions will be held throughout the October sessions.

Workshop - On October 20th Tilbury House will hold the first workshop for this winter term together with Andrew Marshall (winner of several international tournaments, among them the Tilbury House IV 2007) from Oxford. The workshop will start at 9 a.m. sharp in the room XXIII (Wiso-Schlauch) on Saturday, October 20, and finish at around 5 p.m. This workshop is open to all students (members and non-members of our society): you are more than welcome to participate in our free workshop.

August 2007

KOC Euros 2007 Istanbul

Euros 2007 - Breaking to the finals and only narrowly missing the EFL break by speaker
points and with three of four teams breaking, TH demonstrated the strongest performance in a field of 92 ESL teams. Tilbury House White (Assen Kochev & Jan Schmitz) broke to the quarter finals as the best European ESL Team and made it to the ESL Final. Tilbury House Blue (Kai Menzel & Felix Lamouroux) broke fourth to the quarter finals and unfortunately missed the break to semis. They were among the top five ESL speakers of the competition. Tilbury House Red (Yana Zhakhouskaya & Dirk Harlacher) broke to the quarter finals. Tilbury House Gold (Bianca Sterly & Marco Sterly) performed equally well and had one first and several second places.

Chamber Debate with the German Foreign Office & Paris IV

Paris IV - Assen Kochev & Andrew Marshall (Oxford) win the Paris IV as the first ever Oxford-Tilbury composite team. Hannah Raible & Christine Vossen, Tim Bonus & Leonard Münstermann, Maren Hegewald & Lyuba Ilieva participate at their first tournament ranking mid-field among 32 teams. Jan Schmitz & Felix Lamouroux judged; Felix made the judges break to the Grand Final.

Chamber Debate with the German Foreign Office - Eight experienced Tilburies debated the motion: "This house would militarily intervene in Dafur". Afterwards a specialist from the Planungsstab (Think Tank) of the German Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt) presented the official German position on this topic.

April 2007

Amsterdam Open & Rotterdam Open & Kick off & Summer open

Amsterdam Open 2007 - Assen Kochev & Usama Rehmann (Manchester) make it to a break room and miss the semi-finals by one team point. Assen ranks 26th of 120 on the speaker tab. Gabor Vozari & Joanna Gajewska participate at their first international tournament.

Rotterdam Open 2007 - Johannes Norrenbrock & Usama Rehmann (Manchester) make it to the Grand Final. Tillman Schrammel & Felix Lamouroux break to the Semi-Finals as best ESL team on the tab (3rd on complete tab). Felix is best ESL speaker of the competition.

Kick-off - The kick off meeting for the summer term will be on April 3rd at 7.30 pm in the Philosphikum S91 with the first debates of the sweat cup and some drinks afterwards. Further introductory sessions for newcomers will be held on April 10th and April 17th at the same time and location.

March 2007

Tilbury House IV & Manchester IV & LSE Open

Tilbury House IV - 36 teams from 7 different countries compete in Cologne at the third Tilbury House IV. Congratulations to the winning team from Oxford (Andrew Marshall and Max Kasriel). More information on all awards can be found here.

Manchester IV - All three Tilbury teams make the break (ESL/EFL): Yana Zhakhouskaya & Dirk Harlacher break to the EFL-Semi-Finals as fifth team on the tab. Assen Kochev is the best ESL-Speaker of the tournament and breaks to the ESL-Final with Johannes Norrenbrock. Ralph Breuer & Felix Lamouroux (with fever) also break to the ESL-Final.

LSE Open - Felix Lamouroux & Dan Bradley (Manchester) form the first TH/MDU composite team. They miss the break by one team point only; ranking 22nd in a field of 92 teams. Felix is the best ESL-speaker on the tab ranking 46th among the 184 speakers.

Tenth Annual Finals & Tilbury House Intervarsity 2007 & Trinity IV

Trinity IV - Assen Kochev & Jan Schmitz, Kai Menzel & José Gavilanes, Tillman Schrammel & Johannes Norrenbrock. Assen and Jan make it into a break room. They rank 31st in a field of 71 teams. The Tilburies are the only non-native debaters.

Graveson Cup IV & Cork IV

Graveson Cup IV - Bianca & Marco Sterly beat 30 teams at King's College London in a field of 68. Bianca also beats 39 individual speakers at her first tournament. The Tilburies are the only non-native speakers.

Cork IV - Johannes Norrenbrock & Tobias Raschke beat several native teams. It is Tobias’ first tournament.

Tilbury House rocks Oxford IV, VPC Dublin & Ciarán Lawlor CA of Tilbury House IV

Tilbury House IV - Ciarán Lawlor (Convenor of Worlds 2006) will be the chief adjudicator of the Tilbury House Intervarsity 2007. Find out more and register here.

Oxford IV - Assen Kochev & Felix Lamouroux, Marco Sterly & Ralph Breuer, Jan Schmitz & Kai Menzel. Assen & Felix win the ESL (English as second language) Final of Europe’s biggest IV – beating the complete continental European debating elite on their way! Marco & Ralph make it to the Final, too, and Jan & Kai round off the triumph by also breaking to semis! Felix is the best ESL speaker ranking 61st in a field of 280 debaters, Kai ranks third in the ESL tab. Assen & Felix also top the ESL team tab of 39 teams.

Vice President's Cup Dublin - Benjamin Smale & Tobias Karmann make it to the Grand Final of the Novice Cup! They also beat 18 native teams at the following VPC. The Tilburies are the only non-native debaters.

Slovenia Debating Academy - Karolina Piatkowski de Grzymala breaks to the Semifinals. Karolina is in her first term at Tilbury House.

Cambridge IV - Johannes Norrenbrock and Robin Wuchter beat several teams at the Cambridge IV 2007.

October 2006

Semester Kick-Off, Senior Council, Tears Cup, Workshop

The regular Tilbury House sessions start on Tuesday, October 17. Newcomers should aim to join as early as possible.

Tilbury House holds its Annual Debating Workshop. Ciarán Lawlor, Worlds Convenor 2006 and one of Europe’s most prestigious debaters is the tutor. Photos of the workshop can be found in our gallery.

Jörg Hegewald, Jörg Ziemann, and Kai Wiesman – all founding members of the Senior Council – leave the leadership team receiving the highest honors. They hand over their responsibilities to Jan Schmitz and Johannes Norrenbrock.

Kai Menzel, Felix Lamouroux, and Assen Kochev win the Tears Cup - they are the best debaters of the fall break.

Istanbul Debate Championship

Istanbul International Debate Championship - Assen Kochev & Dirk Harlacher perform extremely well ranking 6th in an international field of 52 teams, they are the best ESL (English as Second Language) team. Assen is the 2nd best ESL speaker, Dirk ranks 5th.

4th Cologne Children University, Sweat CUp

Felix Lamouroux, Jose Gavilanes, Assen Kochev, and Tillman Schrammel win the Sweat Cup - they are the four best debaters of the summer semester.

Tilbury House Summer Open 2006 & Grand École IV

The first Tilbury House Summer Open is a great success with 20 teams from 8 different societies. We congratulate the winning team Berlin Confidential and the best speakers Leela Koenig and Alex Ward. Download the speaker tab and team tab.

Grand École IV Paris – Assen Kochev & Jan Schmitz, Johannes Norrenbrock & Tillman Schrammel. Assen and Jan win the first IV for Tilbury House, beating the French National Champion in the grand final. They also rank third and second in the speaker tab. Johannes and Tillman miss the final by a single team point.

Chamber debate, Introduction sessions, Summer Open

Second Tilbury House IV, Manchester IV, Euros 2006

Jose Gavilanes and Kai Wiesmann win the Blood Cup - they are the two best debaters of the spring.

European Debating Championship Berlin – Kai Menzel & Axel Waldecker, Jose Manuel Gavilanes & Assen Kochev, Felix Lamouroux & Yana Zhakhouskaya, Antje Gajewski & Jörg Ziemann, Marco Sterly & Ralph Breuer, Kai Wiesmann & Tillman Schrammel, Fabian Dittrich, Jörg Hegewald, Birte Fidel, and Maren Hegewald adjudicating. Tilbury House has the largest delegation and shows the strongest team performance of any ESL (English as Second Language) society: 5 teams rank in the top 71 out of 164 teams, including over 75 EFL teams. All five teams miss the ESL semi final by a single team point only!

Manchester IV – Antje Gajewski & Axel Waldecker, Felix Lamouroux & Marco Sterly, Mathias Dolls & Michael Tomaschewski, Fabian Dittrich adjudicating. Antje and Axel break to the grand final of England’s fourth largest IV – the best Tilbury House performance ever. Antje ranks 6th out of 88 and wins the Cup for the best non-native speaker ahead of Axel in an also remarkable 12th place. Felix and Marco beat 22, Mathias and Michael 16 teams. Fabian is the only foreign judge breaking and adjudicates in the grand final.

IUB Open, Bremen - Kai Menzel & Axel Waldecker, Jörg Hegewald & Johannes Norrenbrock, Fabian Dittrich adjudicating. Kai and Axel break to semis ranking 4th in the team tab. In the speaker ranking they do even better: Axel ranks 2nd as the best non-native speaker, Kai ranks 4th.

Cork IV - Liang Ge & Johannes Norrenbrock. The Tilburies beat 23 Irish teams at their first IV.

Cambridge IV - Assen Kochev & Marco Sterly rank 46th out of 80 and reach a strong 4th place in the non-native tab. Kai Menzel & Jan Schmitz are only one team point behind.

The registration for the Tilbury House Intervarsity 2006 is open.

Vice President's Cup Dublin (UCD) - In one of the best Tilbury House performances ever Kai Menzel & Fabian Dittrich rank 9th, missing the semi finals by a few speaker points only. Lyuba Ilieva & Daniel Weiss finish their first tournament in a strong 39th place in a field of 60 teams. The Tilburies are the only foreign debaters.

Tilbury House Debating Workshop - Jan Rosing, European Champion 2004 and the Netherland's prime debater is the tutor.

First Advisory Board

Tilbury House amends its constitution and introduces an Advisory Board. The first members are: Christoph Buss, Dirk Harlacher and Jan-Philipp Büchler.

New Webpage & Sponsor, Senior Council departure

The new Tilbury House webpage goes online.

The Boston Consulting Group is the new exclusive sponsor of Tilbury House. The society’s appreciation also goes to McKinsey&Company for the fruitful partnership over the past six years.

Matthias Kehrig leaves the senior council and starts his PhD studies at the Northwestern University in Chicago. Because of his pivotal role, Matthias receives the honour of being taken into the hall of fame.

Croatian International Debating Tournament Dubrovnik 2005 - Kai Menzel & Fabian Dittrich. The Tilburies rank second in the grand final, only loosing to a British team.

Inaugural Tilbury House Chamber Debate: This House believes that German soldiers should not be allowed to refuse obedience for reasons of conscience.

Prague Debate Tournament 2005 - Jan Schmitz & Fabian Dittrich, Marco Sterly & Alexander Krämer. Jan and Fabian make it to the grand final in the Czech senate, Jan with less than a year of debating experience.

Utrech International Tournament 2005 - Aljona Nemyrovska & Matthias Winkelmann rank 5th, missing the grand final by a hair's breadth.

Berlin Open 2005 - Bahira Dakroury & Assen Kochev, Jörg Hegewald & Matthias Winkelmann, Jan-Philipp Büchler & Axel Waldecker, Jose Gavilanes and Thomas van Lith adjudicating. Bahira & Assen make it to the quarter final as strongest newcomer team.

Istanbul 2004 International Debate Tournament - Ralph Breuer & Fabian Dittrich rank second in the tab, the best non-British team in an international starter field of 26 teams. They narrowly miss the cup in the grand final. Fabian ranks second best speaker of the tournament, Ralph in a strong 7th place after less than a year of debating experience.

After 7 years as founder and director of Tilbury House Paul Drew-Bear passes on the responsibility for the society to its members.

Fabian Dittrich becomes the fourth president of Tilbury House - taking over from Matthias Winkelmann who succeeded Laura Lembke and Christoph Buss.

Tilbury House adopts a set of 15 rules and a constitution as its governance structure.
